MILI\u0106 Legal office & hub was founded in 2008 by attorney Dragan Mili\u0107 as a boutique law firm. In addition to attorneys, our team includes associates, lawyers and law graduates who, beyond the firm\u2019s core practice areas, specialize in commercial law, labor law, real estate transactions and corporate restructuring. All members of our team are fluent in English.<\/p>

From the start, the firm has focused on intellectual property and media law, with an emphasis on the online environment, the exercise and protection of rights on the internet. As the internet expanded over the past decade, this knowledge and experience positioned the firm as a trusted adviser to individuals and companies on the legal aspects of the internet, and Dragan Mili\u0107 has earned recognition as a pioneer of internet law in Serbia.<\/p>

As other areas of law moved online, our work broadened into comprehensive legal support for business conducted on or in connection with the internet. E-commerce, today\u2019s dominant way of doing business, requires dedicated legal support, which we were ready to provide from the outset: terms of use, privacy policies, return and complaint procedures, withdrawal rules, and the forms and records required for the exercise of consumer rights.<\/p>

The growth of the internet also brought personal data protection to the forefront. After Directive 95\/46\/EC, which Serbia followed with its 2008 Law on Personal Data Protection, the EU adopted the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), whose solutions have applied in Serbia since 2019 through the new Law on Personal Data Protection. Applying these rules properly requires an understanding of the internet and information security, as well as of the right to privacy as it has developed over decades through constitutionally guaranteed human rights and media law case law. Having dealt with privacy in the \u201canalogue\u201d world long before, we welcomed the new rules: we train data protection officers, help companies implement the new requirements, and take part in public discussions, media appearances and conferences.<\/p>

Since 2011, Dragan Mili\u0107 has been an arbitrator of the Commission for resolving disputes regarding the registration of national internet domain names at the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, where he serves as chair or member of panels deciding on requests for the transfer or cancellation of .RS domain registrations. This has given the firm extensive experience in domain name law as well. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY<\/strong> – Registration and protection of domestic and international trademarks; protection of copyright in all its forms, including support for the development and protection of software and source code; and protection and enforcement of other industrial property rights, such as patents and industrial designs, including representation before the competent authorities and courts.<\/p>

COPYRIGHT<\/strong> – Although copyright is an integral part of intellectual property law, it is one of the firm\u2019s core practice areas. Our extensive experience in protecting and representing authors on the one hand and media companies on the other has made us an active participant in shaping practice and trends in this field.<\/p>

MEDIA LAW<\/strong> – Media law regulates broadcasting, advertising, telecommunications, the media aspects of information technology, the entertainment, gaming and film industries, and print and online media, as well as censorship, freedom of speech and of the press, media ethics, liability for damage caused by the media, and rules on vertical and horizontal concentration of media ownership. A special part of media law concerns the right to privacy when information is published in the media, and the protection of personal rights. Media law also encompasses entertainment law, the law of the entertainment industry.<\/p>

INTERNET LAW<\/strong> – Internet law, also known as cyber law, is difficult to define because of its breadth and constant technological change. As one of the youngest branches of law, it emerged from the need to extend existing rules and create a regulatory framework that brings legal certainty and security to internet users. It covers contractual and tortious relations online, the right to privacy, freedom of speech, intellectual property on the global network, internet security, copyright in computer programs and databases, criminal offences committed online, online betting, and the tax aspects of trading goods and services online. It also covers property rights in digital data and internet domain names.<\/p>

COMMERCIAL LAW<\/strong> – We provide full legal support to companies at every stage of their business, including advising potential investors on investment incentives in the Republic of Serbia, tax and other business benefits, business optimization through import and export strategies, employment and staffing strategies, corporate restructuring, capital management and foreign exchange operations.<\/p>

LABOR LAW<\/strong> – We provide full legal support in employment matters, including employers\u2019 internal regulations, employment contracts and related documents, termination procedures and labor disputes.<\/p>

CONTRACT LAW<\/strong> – We represent clients and provide full legal support in negotiations, strategy, and the preparation of the documents needed to conclude and perform a wide range of transactions.<\/p>

REAL ESTATE<\/strong> – We provide full legal support in real estate management and transactions: negotiations, strategy, documentation for purchases, resolving complex property relations, site development, obtaining the necessary permits and documents, and monitoring construction.<\/p>

PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION<\/strong> – The internet has created new ways of violating privacy, with far more serious and far-reaching consequences for the injured party. Personal data collected online can reveal the most intimate aspects of a person\u2019s life and cause irreparable harm. A typical example is the unauthorized monitoring, storage and processing of information about users\u2019 online activities, especially metadata \u2013 data about the communications themselves. Because today\u2019s software and algorithms can easily combine such data into a precise and detailed picture of a person\u2019s contacts, interests and preferences, this data is high-risk and requires special legal care, both in practice and in companies\u2019 internal policies. New risks have been met with new rules: the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has applied since May 2018, and Serbia\u2019s Law on Personal Data Protection, harmonized with it, has applied since August 2019.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
